Below is a list of Frequently Asked Questions about the series:

  • What kind of cars does the RTM race?  Are they similar to IMCA cars?
  • RTM races an open wheel modified very similar to the IMCA cars. 
     
    - What kind of rollbars do the cars use?
  • Rollbars are made of a 2 hoop construction with one hoop in front of the driver and one hoop behind the driver. They are connected together to form a cage of safety around the driver’s compartment to protect the driver in case of an accident or rollover. 
     
    - What type of tires do the cars race with?
  • Our series uses the Hoosier F53 tire with an 8 inch smooth tread surface. 
     
    - How much cost goes into a modified compared to a late model?
  • While there is no set cost, Modifieds are generally considered to be less expensive due to the cost of the engines and the fact that the rules have been basically the same for the last 5 years. 
     
    - Can I run a crate motor?
  • Yes, RTM has a crate engine section in the rules for competitors. 
     
    - How much horsepower does an RTM put out?
  • The crate engines that RTM specify has approximately 350 HP while the built engine has between 400 and 500 HP. 
     
    - What is the weight requirement for an RTM car?
  • The weight for a crate engine modified is 2450 pounds and the built engine is 2600 lbs with 58% of the total weight on the left side of the car. The weight difference is due to the crate motor having less horsepower. 
     
    - What does an RTM race consist of?
  • The races are usually 75 laps of highly competitive racing with the starting lineup determined by the race cars speed during a qualifying session held prior to the race. 
     
    - What type of chassis are on an RTM car?
  • The chassis are factory production American production car front frame section with fabricated tubular race car style center and rear sections. 
     
    - How old does one have to be to compete on the RTM tour?
  • You have to be 18 years of age to compete with RTM tour. 
     
    - What if I can only afford to race a few races?
  • The RTM rules are compatible with most short track modified series so you can possibly race at your local track and compete with the RTM Tour when the series races at a track near you. 
     
    - Do you have a sanctioning body?
  • Rolling Thunder Modifieds is the sanctioning body for our series. 
     
    - Where does the tour race at?
  • We have 14 races scheduled in 3 states for 2008. The complete schedule can be seen on Rolling Thunder Modifieds schedule found here.
     
    - How many cars race at an event?
  • For the 2008 year we are anticipating seeing 20 or more RTM Modifieds at each race.
